Wernick: Suite No. 3

Richard Wernick’s sixth work for unaccompanied cello is a three-movement suite. The first movement is marked at a slow tempo, yet the feel is joyously improvisatory with rapid gushing. The work’s centerpiece is a eulogy titled Passacaglietta (Lament for my friend George Crumb), and the final movement is a Scherzetto marked as “light and fanciful.”
